PATTERN INFORMATION

Inky is a very cute octopus with a little submarine and some fish.

Always stuff each piece firmly, unless stated otherwise. Work tightly to avoid holes between the stitches. You can achieve tight stitches by working with the

“x” single crochet technique (yarn under then yarn over).

Everything is crocheted in a spiral.

Pattern

Make the following parts holding two strands of Dhalia yarn, one from the outside and one

from the inside of the cake.

OCTOPUS

Tentacles

(make 8, but don’t finish off the last one)

Make the following parts with Rainbow Cotton 8/4 yarn.

Eyes

Rnd 4: (sc 2, inc) 6 times (24)

Change to white yarn and cut off black yarn.

Rnd 5: (sc 3, inc) 6 times (30)

Rnd 6: 1 sc in each st (30)

Sl st in next st. Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing.

With white yarn, embroider highlights on the eyes. Sew the eyes to the body, between rounds 25 and 35, aligned with two tentacles and about 10 stitches apart.

Mouth

(in white yarn)

Chain 12. Start the next round in the first ch to make a ring.

Rnd 1: (sc, inc) 6 times (18)

Rnd 2-4: 1 sc in each st (18)

Rnd 5: (sc, dec) 6 times (12)

Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Sew round 5 to the foundation chain to close, stuff as you sew. Sewthe mouth between the eyes, between rounds 26 and 31. You can leave it in a round shape or make it in a sad/smile shape.

Eyebrows

(make 2, in black yarn)

Chain 6.

Rnd 1: start in 2

nd ch from hook, sc 4, sc 3 in the last ch and turn your work as you go.

Continue on the other side of the ch, sc 3, inc in the last ch (12)

Sl st in next st. Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Sew the eyebrows 2 stitches above the eyes in the desired position.

SUBMARINE

(in yellow yarn)

Small windows

Change to white yarn and cut off light blue yarn.

Rnd 3: 1 sc in each st (12)

Sl st in next st. Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Sew the small windows on each side of the submarine, between rounds 9 and 15.

Sail

(in yellow yarn)

Chain 6.

Rnd 1: start in 2

nd ch from hook, sc 4, sc 3 in the last ch and turn your work as you go.

Continue on the other side of the ch, sc 3, inc in the last ch (12)

Rnd 2: (sc, inc) 6 times (18)

Rnd 3-4: 1 sc in each st (18)

Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Stuff lightly. Sew the sail to the top of the submarine, between rounds 8 and 15.

Periscope

(in yellow yarn)

Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Sew the periscope to the top of the sail. Bend it forward halfway and secure in position with a stitch.

Rudders

Do not stuff, instead flatten them. Sew the rudders to the back of the submarine, between rounds 6 and 8, aligned with the sail.

You can sew the finished submarine to the top of the octopus or leave it as a separate piece.

Fish

Rnds 3-5: 1 sc in each st (9)

Rnd 6: (sc, dec) 3 times (6)

Do not stuff. Flatten the opening and work the next round through both layers to close.

Rnd 7: 3-hdc puff stitch, sl st, 3-hdc puff stitch (3)

Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing if desired or weave in yarn ends.

With black yarn, make a French knot on the fished for the eyes.

You can sew the finished fishes to the top of the octopus or leave as separate pieces.
